The H Word Shoot (72 of 103)

This year felt like a 3-for-2 special. A “Buy-2-Get-1-Free” deal. A valuepack if you will.

There were so many ups and downs, so many events, in both a personal and business capacity.

This year has seen us hit our highest highs and lowest lows but overall it has been a learning experience. We’d like it if you read this blog post as a diary entry from us. A look into what this year has been like and how we’ve felt throughout it. We hope it speaks to you.

It’s already December, the end of the year, the end of an era for The H Word.

2023 was honestly a year I’d like to never have a repeat of again and yet I must say this year stretched me to new lengths in my personal and business life. For the first time The H Word reached its targets in half the time and just when I felt like I was on the highest of highs, it went absolutely silent and we went months without a single sale. This is how my emotions went:

MONTH 1: SURPRISE

MONTH 2: DISBELIEF

MONTH 3: DEFEAT

And once the feeling of defeat creeped in, coupled with my personal life and my 9 to 5’s extended hours, I found myself unable to make content, edit existing content and keep up with our video posting schedule. There would be sudden moments of intense guilt where I would find myself logged into our Canva account setting up Instagram and Facebook posts and endlessly harassing Khrystyne in the business group followed by me going absolutely silent.

But it wasn’t all bad because we finally launched our podcast, New Money Rookies. For those of you who do not know we launched a small business podcast that allows you as the consumer to take a behind the scenes look into our business and how we balance our friendship vs partnership. And just when y’all thought we were done we launched satin pillowcase covers.

In 2023, we introduced new things, we had to unfortunately let go of others and overall accept the wins and failures this year.

A Long Distance Partnership

KHRYSTYNE

Yep, a rollercoaster of a year.

At the beginning of the year I was employed. I was let go from that job and spent a few months being unemployed and feeling useless. Then I was offered a job and had to move to a different province. I struggled to prioritise my time with the new job and as a result I slacked on my duties at The H Word.

Feeling useless again after the high of finally being employed.

The H Word has been on a rollercoaster too. Great sales in the first half of the year and then nothing. We lost our supplier of Manketti oil and consequently, that line of products will be coming to an end.

But, as Nwabisa mentioned, we launched our podcast, brought out a new satin item – pillowcase covers- and opened a YouTube channel. And soon, we’ll have more in store for you. It sounds like a threat, but in actuality, it’s a promise.

So many changes in one short year. The overall mood has been stressed and even more stressed. Our minds are still trying to catch up.

Onwards and upwards from here!

And with that, we would like to wish you a safe and peaceful festive season and a Happy New Year.

We’ll see you soon, in the new year, 8th January 2024.
